🕗 Saturday 8th April, 17:30 GMT
We have an intriguing matchup this Saturday in the late kickoff in the Premier League. Second-placed Manchester City take on bottom-side Southampton in what could prove to be a crucial game in the battle for the title and survival. Southampton will be looking to pull off a massive upset against the 2021/2022 Premier League champions.
The race for the title
Manchester City are looking to win yet another Premier League title. If so, they will become only the second team in Premier League history to win three consecutive titles. But they need to keep up their unbeaten run of 7 games while having to rely on league leaders Arsenal to drop points in their final nine Premier League games.
Southampton sit rock bottom of the Premier League table on only 23 points out of 29 games they’ve played so far this season. To ensure they keep their Premier League status for the upcoming season, they need to start picking up points, and where better to start than at home against the current Premier League champions? The Saints have struggled to pick up wins this season in the Premier League. They have won only two matches out of their last ten games and only scored six goals while conceding 12 in that run. If they want to maintain their Premier League status, this has to improve quickly.

Head to head
The last five Premier League meetings between the two sides have ended in a Manchester City winning three and the remaining two matches resulting in draws. Looking at the Premier League table this season and current form, you wouldn’t back against Manchester City extending their unbeaten run and keeping the pressure up on league leaders Arsenal.
Manchester City have a spectacular attacking midfielder in Kevin De Bruyne. He arguably has the best passing ability of one of the best in the world. He has the ability to open any defence with his vision and passing accuracy. Manchester City purchased him back in 2015 at a reported £55m, which we can now look back on and say was value for money.
Southampton will rely on James Ward-Prowse and his delivery from dead-ball situations. He has scored 17 free kicks in the Premier League, second behind only David Beckham (18).
Jack Grealish is also one to watch. Since the World Cup, he has rediscovered the form he showed at Aston Villa and has quickly become one of City’s main men.
