PSG add Messi to the ranks.
PSG have had an incredible transfer window this summer, acquiring so much world-class talent. The new additions to Mauricio Pochettino‘s team have propelled them to be favourites to win the Champions League.
The first addition that the Paris team made was former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum. The Dutch international refused to sign a new contract with Liverpool as he looked for a new chapter away from Anfield.
The midfielder looked set on a move to Barcelona, but PSG swept in at the last minute and got the Dutchman. He is a brilliant addition to Pochettino’s team as they look to strengthen so they are in pole position for the clubs’ sought after Champions League trophy.
The second signing PSG made was Inter Milan right-back Achraf Hakimi. PSG chased after the right-back for weeks and chased off interest and bids from other clubs, most notably Chelsea, to secure the signing of the 22-year-old.
Inter Milan only signed the defender last year from Real Madrid for £36 million. Inter Milan are facing serious financial issues, so offloading the young defender may be a necessity rather than a choice.
Whatever the reason for the sale, PSG have picked up a brilliant player to strengthen their team.
PSG then looked at another free agent. After a very impressive Euro 2020 performance, Gianluigi Donnarumma stirred up a lot of interest from around Europe as he was available on a free after his contract at AC Milan expired and he wasn’t planning on signing a new contract.
The Italian star has generated so much interest as he is still only 22 years-old but is so experienced. PSG also have a world-class goalkeeper in Keylor Navas. It is unsure what will happen and who Pochettino will choose as his number one and if it will change. But it is for sure that PSG have the best duo of goalkeepers at their club and have more quality there than anywhere else in the world.
PSG then made a surprise signing of free agent Sergio Ramos. After sixteen years at Real Madrid, it looked like Sergio Ramos would finish his career in Madrid. After such a successful Real Madrid career, winning countless pieces of silverware, Ramos struggled to strike a contract negotiation with the club.
A shock press conference was held where Ramos announced his sixteen-year stay in Madrid was over and he would be moving on. There was speculation about Ramos going to Manchester United, but it looked pretty certain he would end up in Paris. Ramos comes to Paris as one of the most accomplished defenders ever and brings a wealth of experience to the PSG team, along with being a born winner and a born leader.
The other signings are all incredible signings and PSG have done fantastic in securing the deals, but nothing compares to their most recent signing. PSG secured the free agent signing of Lionel Messi.
Paris was sent into a frenzy when news speculated that the Argentinian would sign for PSG. Barcelona is in terrible financial trouble. The wage bill they accumulated made it impossible to sign Messi to a new contract. Messi wanted a deal with Barcelona. He didn’t want to leave. Messi wanted to finish his career at Barcelona, but it wasn’t possible. Messi announced his stay in Barcelona was over in an emotional press conference and reports worldwide were putting Messi in Paris.
The arrival of Messi sent Paris into meltdown. Messi is one of the best players to ever play the sport and his arrival in Paris is just incredible for all the fans of PSG.
Messi will once again be teammates with Neymar and, seeing what the two did together when in Barcelona, PSG fans can only be excited about what these two can do on the same team again. Messi will also link up with Mbappe, who will be absolutely deadly along with Neymar.
No one ever saw Messi and Sergio Ramos playing together, let alone getting along after heated battles and rivalry between the two whilst in Spain, but if they can get past that, this PSG team will definitely be very hard to beat.
Lionel Messi is an incredible addition to the Paris team and is probably the best free agent signing ever. Messi will light up PSG just like he did for Barcelona his whole career. The Argentine signed a two-year deal worth around $41 million.
Messi also has a chance to extend that contract for an extra year. That takes it to a three-year deal. This takes PSG’s wage bill to the highest in any sport ever, which is over an absurd €300 million. PSG’s expectations for this season will be the Champions League. Anything lower than that will be a disappointment, Pochettino is under so much pressure to make this work.
