This Friday night, in the Sky Bet Championship, we see top of the league Burnley take on third-placed Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. Middlesbrough will be looking to get the three points to give them hopes of automatic promotion. Whereas Burnley will be looking to take the three points back to Turf Moor to certify their return back to the Premier League, their return can only be confirmed Friday night if Luton drop points on Friday afternoon against Millwall.
Head to head
Earlier this season we saw the two sides take each other on at Turf Moor, where Burnley came out victorious with a comfortable 3-1 win. In the 2015/2016 Championship season, we saw the two teams pushing for promotion and on this occasion, both teams made their return to the Premier League. Middlesbrough will be looking for the same outcome this season, with Burnley almost confirming their return back to the Premier League already, it just seems like it’s a matter of time.
Middlesborough’s Push for Promotion
Middlesbrough will be looking to get back to winning ways, after losing 4-2 away at Huddersfield last time out. Third-placed Middlesbrough will be looking to put some pressure on Sheffield United, who are second in the table and who are now sitting 6 points clear of Middlesbrough. Even if Middlesbrough don’t manage to get promoted by finishing in the top two, they will be hoping to get promoted through the playoffs to make a return to the Premier League after a five year stint in the Championship.

Burnley’s form
The Clarets have been outstanding this season and have only lost a total of two games in this Championship season. Burnley are currently on an 18-game unbeaten run and will be looking to carry this on, on Good Friday.
Key players
Burnley’s key man is undoubtedly Nathan Tella. The youngster has positively impacted Burnley this season and contributed massively to their drastic improvement under Vincent Kompany. Tella has had 20 goal contributions this season in the Championship, scoring seventeen and assisting three. Burnley will be looking to add Nathan Tella to their squad next season after his loan runs out from Southampton at the end of the season.
Middlesbrough’s star man this season has been the goal-scoring machine, Chuba Akpom. The English striker has had a huge impact under Michael Carrick this season and has scored a whopping 25 goals, making him the top goal scorer so far in the 2022/2023 Championship season. With Akpom’s form this season, he will certainly attract interest from Premier League clubs but Middlesbrough will be looking to keep their star striker.
