In the late kickoff in today’s Premier League, we will undoubtedly see the game of the day between reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City and Newcastle United at the Etihad.
Previous Results Of The Two Sides
Manchester City kicked off their Premier League campaign with an emphatic 0-3 victory at Turf Moor against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley last Friday night in the first game of the Premier League season and they followed that up with a penalty shootout win against Sevilla on Wednesday night. Pep Guardiola’s team will be looking to add a midfielder to their ranks after losing Kevin De Bruyne to a long term injury on Friday against Burnley. City are currently keeping a close eye on Lucas Paqueta from West Ham but the Hammers are reluctant to sell their star man.
The Magpies’ new signing Sandro Tonali kicked off their Premier League campaign with a tidy finish in the opening ten minutes against Aston Villa. Villa’s new signing Moussa Diaby then equalised shortly after for his side to make it 1-1. The Swedish international Alexander Isak ended the game as a contest after he exploited two defensive errors by Aston Villa. The Magpies went on to win 5-1 in what was a perfect start to the season for Eddie Howe’s side.
Team News
The Belgian International Kevin De Bruyne is unavailable for several months after picking up a hamstring injury on Friday night against Burnley. However, Bernardo Silva will be introduced back into the matchday squad after missing the UEFA Super Cup final against Sevilla due to illness. On a more positive note for Manchester City supporters, Guardiola reintroduced John Stones and Ruben Dias to the matchday squad on Wednesday night and they will be in contention to start against Newcastle.
The Magpies currently only have one major injury issue in their squad. Joe Willock could be out for the first few weeks of the campaign after picking up a hamstring injury at the end of last season. The English midfielder has played no part in pre-season for Eddie Howe’s side.
