Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace has voiced his growing frustration over the protracted transfer saga surrounding star player Sammie Szmodics. The Championship’s top scorer last season has been the subject of a £6 million bid from Ipswich Town, a figure well below Rovers’ £20 million valuation.
Eustace expressed his desire for a swift resolution, stating, “It’s very important that we get this sorted with Sammie, one way or the other. We want him to stay at the football club, he’s a terrific player… It’s important that we sort his future out as quickly as we can because it’s not fair on the lad and it’s not fair on the club.”
The ongoing uncertainty has disrupted Szmodics’ pre-season preparations, with the player missing out on crucial training and match time due to fitness concerns. Eustace acknowledged the situation, stating, “Sammie is short of match fitness… He hasn’t been training with the group as much as he’d want to either because of all the different things going on.”
Despite the disruption, Eustace praised Szmodics’ professionalism and commitment, assuring fans that the player will be ready when called upon. “Sam is a top, top player at this level… Eventually, that might happen. At the moment, he hasn’t trained or played for the last three or four weeks. We have to protect the lad as well.”
The Rovers boss remains hopeful that the situation will be resolved soon, allowing Szmodics to either fully integrate back into the squad or move on to a new challenge.
